Introduction

Down the Rabbit Hole by Juan Pablo Villalobos is an immaculate little story of sweet, spoilt Tochtli and his devastatingly funny pathetic life as a drug lord’s son who just wants a pygmy hippopotamus.

Our young little narrator, surrounded by the sordidity of his criminal father who loves him, leads to disastrous consequences – at least for the hippos.

Hint (has spoilers):
Tochtli likes the French for what they do to their kings and queens.

<If the text reads a bit odd, read the book and you will know why.
It's anyway not going to take more than a few hours>
