‘To Hell with Poets’ by Baqytgul Sarmekova is a collection of very short short-stories about the mundanities of life in Kazakhstan – with a lot of them centring around women for various walks of life. Straddling the dichotomy between traditionality and modernity, it is overall an engaging collection of good stories with some misses.
While enjoyable, the stories are disparate – making it difficult for find a common thread. Having not written the blog a couple weeks into finishing the book, I don’t have much to write now.
