Introduction

If African Absurdities II – Give me a Dog’s Life Any Day by Hama Tuma was meant to be a satire, I would argue it is at best a lousy one. I can’t imagine a good satire to be so angry, so self-righteous. If it was just political commentary – it was at best tiring and repetitive with no real takeaways
Composed of, what feels like, countless short isolated chapters – the books seems an endless stream of complaints and grievances about injustices and double standards and hypocrisies against Africa. Ignoring the instances when the grievance was too much of a stretch to be taken seriously ( e.g. As African as Jealousy – twists normal scientific inquiry into an example of anti-Africanism) – it isn’t difficult to argue that a lot of complaints had a valid basis. Despite these the book is happy to just keep complaining about these complaints without making any no central argument or hypothesis. It definitely offers no solutions.
The most succinct way I can summarize my feelings about the book would be the simple clip below –
